Difference Between Jealousy & Insecurity

Jealousy vs Insecurity

Jealousy and Insecurity are two emotions that often go hand in hand, although they are different feelings. Jealousy is a state of envy towards another person, and can be triggered by various aspects of life such as appearance, wealth, and achievements. Insecurity, on the other hand, refers to the state of lacking confidence in oneself. For example, if a person is insecure about their own level of achievement, it is natural for them to be jealous of another person who possesses something they do not. Both jealousy and insecurity are generally considered negative qualities in people. In this article, we will examine the differences between these two states and gain an understanding of each term.

What is Jealousy?

Jealousy can be defined as the state of feeling envious of another person, which is generally considered a negative quality. A person can feel jealous of another individual for various reasons, such as achievements and success, wealth, relationships, or physical appearance. This indicates that jealousy is usually triggered by external factors, and once the factor is removed, the person returns to their usual state. We all experience jealousy at some point in our lives, which is natural. However, it is important to remember that it should not be fueled at any cost.

For example, two close friends may be approached by a third person. One of the friends begins to become close to the new friend and enjoy a harmonious relationship, while the other friend feels left out and may become jealous. In relationships, jealousy is one of the main causes for disputes and is often linked with insecurity. However, insecure people are not the only ones who feel jealous, although the sequence of being jealous by an insecure person is much greater than a normal individual.

What is Insecurity?

Insecurity is when an individual lacks confidence in themselves, leading them to feel “not good enough.” Low self-esteem, low self-worth, and lack of confidence are some qualities that can be seen in an insecure person. Being insecure can be very negative, as it puts the individual in a position where they may feel envious of others.

For example, an insecure lover may have a high tendency to become very possessive and dominating of their partner due to their insecurity. They may feel threatened by others and constantly fear that they are not good enough. Unlike jealousy, insecurity is an internal factor, often triggered by the individual’s own lack of self-worth rather than external factors. This highlights that jealousy and insecurity are two different terms, which are related to a certain extent.

What is the difference between Jealousy and Insecurity?

  • Jealousy is the state of being envious of another, whereas Insecurity refers to the state of having insufficient confidence in oneself.
  • Jealousy is mainly due to external factors, whereas Insecurity is often triggered by internal factors.
  • An insecure person experiences low self-esteem, low self-worth, and lack of confidence in the long run, but these qualities cannot be seen in a jealous person.
