Introduction
The world of footwear is filled with a variety of styles and designs, especially for women. Pumps and platforms are two types of shoes that may appear similar, but have distinct differences. In this article, we will explore the characteristics of pumps and platforms.
Pumps
Pumps are high heeled women’s shoes with a low cut front that can be slipped on without any fastening device. They are sometimes referred to as Court Shoes. In the UK, pump shoes referred to flat or low heeled women’s shoes, while in the US, they were shoes with high heels. Pumps typically have a closed back and do not have buckles or straps. However, there are variations of pumps that feature buckles and straps, as well as those with very small or no heels. Pumps have a taller side on the heels and a shorter front. They are often worn in formal settings, such as offices, and are known for their comfort and easy removal.
Platforms
Platforms are high heeled shoes for women that not only have high heels, but also higher fronts to provide more comfort for the toes. Platforms have been popular since ancient times, as they were used to create the illusion of height for women with smaller statures. In ancient Greece, important characters in plays were often depicted wearing platforms. Today, platforms are characterized by their thick soles at both the back and the front, where the toes are placed. When a lady wears platforms, the angle of her foot is less acute compared to wearing pumps.
Differences Between Pumps and Platforms
– Platforms have a thicker base all over compared to pumps.
– Pumps have a high heel and are strapless, while platforms do not have straps or buckles.
– Platforms provide more comfort due to the less acute angle of the foot compared to pumps.
– The toes in pumps are grounded, while in platforms, they are raised above ground level by at least an inch.
