What is Buddhism?
Buddhism’s ultimate goal is to reach Nirvana, which is a state of total spiritual bliss and liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The term “Buddhism” comes from the word “buddhi,” which means “intellectual awakening.” A Buddhist should lead a life of morality, strive to develop understanding, and be mindful of their actions. It is believed that enlightenment, which is the highest aim of humanity, can only be reached at the cessation of pain and suffering. Buddhism believes in the theory of rebirth, where life goes on forever due to rebirth. A Buddhist’s goal is to elevate themselves in each birth until they attain Nirvana, which can put an end to the continuous cycle of rebirths known as sansara.
What is Taoism?
Taoism has been in existence for over 2000 years and is also known as Daoism. The term “Taoism” comes from the word “Tao,” which means “way” or the life force that guides living beings in the universe. Taoism’s ultimate goal is to attain harmony with the first cause of the universe, or to become one with nature. According to Taoism, every Taoist should harmonize themselves with the Tao. Taoism believes in the concept of an eternal soul, which goes into another life and continues to live until it attains the highest goal of attaining Tao. At the end of this process, the soul realizes reincarnation. Thus, Taoism believes in the theory of reincarnation.
